We have “the Cloud”. So, why EDGE?
Edge Computing isn’t a hot buzzword like Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G Augmented Reality (AR), and the Internet of Things (IoT). Cloud computing is great for many of today’s technologies, but it’s too slow for tomorrow’s tech breakthroughs!
From a technological standpoint, traditional Cloud Computing will not be enough to support 22 billion IoT devices in scalability, lower latency and local data.
Multi-Access (Mobile) Edge Computing (MEC) is a type of Edge Computing that uses cellular networks and 5G as its primary connectivity. A foundational technology for 5G, it provides both an IT service environment and cloud-computing capabilities at the edge of mobile networks, within closer proximity to mobile subscribers.
